Rehabilitation Road Jenny-Henar

On 17 October 2018 was the launch of the rehabilitation of the road Jenny in Coronie to Henar in Nickerie.

Baitali Group of companies performs the rehabilitation on behalf of the Ministry of Public Works, Transport & communication.

The Surinamese government has indicated in its development plans 2012-2016 and 2017-2021 that it has the intention to connect the East-West road connection to the road network of our neighbours.

The East-West road connection has as a primary function connecting of the economic centers along the coast and the integration of Suriname in the region. The East-West road connection could be an important link for international transport through improvements.

A good road connection with Guyana can increase the chances of the Surinamese entrepreneurs in Guyana, which is certainly attractive in the context of current developments in the offshore industry in Guyana.

The Ministry of Public Works, referring to the 2012-2016 development plan in its budget of 2015, indicated that there has been a road network that has not barely grown in relation to social and economic needs. The Ministry seeks to accommodate this bottleneck by carrying out the reconstruction plan Coppename Punt – Henar.

The official start was on Wednesday 17 October 2018.

The total duration of the project is 2 years.

The start date is January 1, 2019.

The end date is December 31, 2020.

The management is done by the consortium ILACO and Sintec. Baitali also collaborates with geotechnical engineering firm GEO2 and CM engineering for engineering and surveying.

The route has a total length of approximately 120 km. The route can be divided into the following five sections:

  1. Jenny – Ingikondre (approx. 37 km)
  2. Ingikondre – Burnside (approx. 21 km)
  3. Burnside – Cayman Polder (approx. 30 km)
  4. Cayman Polder – Wageningen (approx. 10 km)
  5. Wageningen – Haider (approx. 21 km)

From these five sections, we will perform section 1b (KM 104-115), section 2 and Section 5.

In addition to these five sections, we will also work in Wageningen with the asphalting of 5.3 km on the road.

The method of implementation is based on the efficient and effective use of all resources (people, materials and equipment). Furthermore, it is ensured that a continuous flow of traffic is possible by keeping 1 lane open. Finally, quality assurance and safety management are given special attention in both the work preparation and the implementation.

The quality standards we apply are in accordance with the specifications requirements. We also want to graft the project management into the ISO 9001 Quality Management system.

Approximately 80 to 100 employees will be deployed on the project.

The foundation of the road is instead of a normal sand and base course structure, combined into a stabilized layer with sand, base course, cement and additives.
